Privacy policy

About this policy

This policy explains how DISCURSIA, the publisher of Daily Taoism, processes personal data through the app and dailytaoism.com. DISCURSIA is established at 58 rue de Monceau, CS 48756, 75008 Paris, France. Contact us about this policy or your personal data.

Data you provide

We process your account details, including your name, email address and sign-in identifier; the writings and reflections you save; and messages you send to support. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the account information you authorise that provider to share. Writing is optional. Required account and support fields are identified when collected. Contact form messages are sent to our support mailbox. We use short-lived technical counters to limit spam.

Data from using the service

We process practice progress, saved items, preferences, subscription status and transaction identifiers to provide your account features. If you enable reminders, we use notification settings and a device notification token to deliver them. Apple handles payment information for App Store purchases.

App analytics and diagnostics

The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how its features are used, and Firebase Crashlytics to receive diagnostic reports when the app crashes or behaves unexpectedly. These tools process technical and usage information such as a Firebase installation identifier, device model, operating system version, app version, language and region, the screens or events reached in the app, and, for a crash, the technical state of the app at that moment. They are not used to read your writings or reflections, and we do not use them to build advertising profiles or share this information with advertising networks. Where your consent is required for this processing, the app asks for it and you can change your decision in the app settings; otherwise we rely on our legitimate interest in maintaining, securing and improving the service. Diagnostic and usage records are retained for a limited period in line with the default retention settings of these services.

Purposes and legal bases

We use account, saved-content and subscription data to perform our contract with you. We use support correspondence to respond to service requests and, where appropriate, on the basis of our legitimate interest in assisting users. Security-related processing relies on our legitimate interest in protecting the service. We process records required by law to meet legal obligations. App analytics and crash diagnostics rely on your consent where applicable law requires it, and otherwise on our legitimate interest in maintaining, securing and improving the app. Optional website analytics relies on consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Providers and recipients

Google Firebase supports authentication, saved data, files and notification delivery, and provides the analytics and crash diagnostics described above through Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. RevenueCat supports subscription access, and Apple handles App Store transactions. Hostinger hosts the website. Google Analytics measures website use only with your consent. Data is shared with providers for the functions they perform, and with authorities where legally required.

Your writing

Your entries are stored to provide the writing features you choose to use. A letter is not sent to its recipient. Avoid including sensitive information about yourself or another person that is not necessary for your practice.

Retention

We keep account data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete the account, saved writings, practice progress, preferences and saved PDF exports from our systems, and request deletion of your RevenueCat customer profile. RevenueCat processes that request asynchronously. Copies you have downloaded or shared remain wherever you saved or sent them. Deleting your account also ends the association between your account and future analytics or diagnostic records, although diagnostic reports already collected are retained for their remaining retention period. Support correspondence and records required by law are handled separately and retained only as necessary for their purpose or the applicable legal period.

Deleting your account

Open Account settings and choose Delete account. You may be asked to sign in again. If you use Sign in with Apple, the app asks you to authenticate with Apple to revoke its sign-in authorisation. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription or delete records Apple holds for its own legal and payment purposes. Manage your subscription separately in your Apple account. If you cannot access the app, contact us.

International processing

Using international service providers can involve processing outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Where applicable law requires transfer safeguards, transfers must rely on an adequacy decision or appropriate contractual safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. Contact us to request information about the safeguards relevant to your data.

Your rights

Under applicable data protection law, including the GDPR and French data protection law, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or receive a portable copy of your data, restrict processing, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Consent can be withdrawn without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. French law also provides for instructions concerning personal data after death.

Making a request

Contact us to exercise your rights. We may ask for information needed to verify your identity. Requests are handled within the period required by applicable law; GDPR requests normally receive a response within one month, with any permitted extension explained to you. You may complain to the CNIL or another competent data protection authority. Rights available under the mandatory laws of your place of residence remain unaffected.

Cookies and analytics

Website analytics is optional. You can accept or refuse it and change your decision through Cookie preferences. See our cookie information.

Changes

We will update this policy when our data practices change and provide additional notice where required by law.
